Ms. Jet Feet not coming?

I would be a little nervous if I was a Washington Freedom fan. It appears a few Swedish clubs are looking to snag WPS International Draftee Lisa DeVanna from the Freedom. What is worse is that she states she has had no communication with the D.C. club. As things stand now, DeVanna looks to be going else where, there is no chatter of Homare Sawa in talks or close to decision, none of the other players in the US WNT draft, General draft, or International draft are forwards. That leaves Abby Wambach, who hasn’t played with the national team in nearly six months after being sidelined by fracturing the tibia and fibula in her leg.

Now, if they are able to sign Homare Sawa things turn around big time. Sawa enjoyed a great 2008, earning both MVP accolades in the East Asia Cup and AFC Asian Cup.

The WPS draft is held January 16th, but as the 7th and 8th picks in rounds 1 and 2, there is no chance of grabbing Amy Rodriguez. So they better get Sawa, draft someone to partner with Wambach, or start searching the globe.

St. Louis Athletica may be even worse position, with just one forward on the roster so far. Sky Blue FC are sitting pretty in this department, with three prolific international forwards. Here is a list of team’s goal getters so far:

Boston Breakers
Kristine Lilly
Amy Rodriguez (#1 Pick in WPS Draft)

Chicago Red Stars
Lindsey Tarpley
Danesha Adams (UCLA General Draft)
Ella Masar (U of Illinois General Draft)

FC Gold Pride
Christine Sinclair (Looking to play in WPS)
Kandace Wilson (Cal State Fullerton General Draft)

St. Louis Athletica
Angie Woznuk

Los Angeles Sol
Marta (Everything but confirmed)
Christie Welsh

Sky Blue FC
Natasha Kai
Heather O’Reilly
Sarah Walsh

Washington Freedom
Abby Wambach
